<p>In Episode 190, we explore Luke 9:52-56 and a pivotal moment that reveals the disciples' misunderstanding of Jesus' mission. Jesus is on His way to Jerusalem—to the cross, to His death, to the completion of His mission to save the world. He sends messengers ahead to a Samaritan village to prepare for His arrival. But the Samaritans reject Him. They don't welcome Him because He's headed to Jerusalem, and there was ancient hostility between Jews and Samaritans. It's a small rejection. A village saying no. But watch how James and John respond: "Lord, should we call down fire from heaven to burn them up?" They want to punish the village for the slight. They want to use their power to retaliate and make the village pay for their rejection. And Jesus rebukes them. He's not just correcting their behavior—He's correcting their hearts. They're thinking like the world thinks, responding to rejection with retaliation, letting a small offense derail them from the mission. Through guided meditation, discover what Jesus does instead: He doesn't call down fire. He doesn't punish the village. He doesn't demand acceptance. He simply moves on to another village and stays focused on His purpose. This episode explores what rejection reveals about us. You will be rejected. You will be slighted. You will encounter people who don't welcome you or your message. And in those moments, you have a choice. You can react with harshness, with retaliation, with fire—or you can respond with Jesus' measured grace. Acknowledge the rejection, but don't let it define your mission. Learn why the disciples' desire to punish the village reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of Jesus' mission. Jesus' mission wasn't about forcing acceptance or punishing those who reject Him—it was about offering salvation to those who would receive it and moving on to those who would. Discover how a measured response often accomplishes far more than a reactive one. It shows strength, not weakness. It demonstrates that you're secure in your purpose, not threatened by rejection. Find practical steps for creating space between an offense and your reaction—the space where transformation happens. Learn how to ask yourself: What is my true mission here? Is retaliation going to serve that mission, or distract from it? What would Jesus do? This episode will empower you to respond with grace when rejected, stay focused on what matters, and model Jesus' strength and compassion.</p>

<itunes:subtitle>In Episode 187, we explore Matthew 18:21-35 and Jesus' radical teaching on forgiveness. Peter asks Jesus how many times he should forgive someone who sins against him—suggesting seven times as a generous limit. Jesus responds with a shocking answer: "seventy times seven"—not a literal number, but a call to unlimited, boundless forgiveness. He then tells a parable that cuts to the heart of the matter. A king forgives a servant an impossible debt—millions of dollars. The servant is released, restored, and free. But then this same servant encounters a fellow servant who owes him a small amount and demands immediate payment, grabbing him by the throat and having him thrown in prison. When the king hears what happened, he's furious—not because the servant failed to collect a debt, but because the servant refused to pass on the mercy he had received. Through guided meditation, discover the profound tension Jesus is pressing into your heart: You have been forgiven of everything. Every sin. Every failure. Every moment you've fallen short. The debt has been paid. You are free. But if you refuse to forgive others—if you hold their sins against them—then you are rejecting the very mercy that saved you. Unforgiveness says: "I will hold this against you. You owe me. You deserve punishment." Forgiveness says: "I release you. The debt is canceled. You are free." One comes from a heart that has experienced the king's mercy. The other comes from a heart that has forgotten it. This episode challenges you to examine who you've been refusing to forgive and what debt you've been demanding they pay. Learn why forgiveness is not a feeling—it's a choice. You may not feel forgiving. You may still feel angry or hurt. But forgiveness is the deliberate decision to release someone from the debt you believe they owe you. Discover how forgiving others frees them, but also frees you from carrying the weight of their sin and letting their actions define your present. Find practical steps for naming the hurt, releasing the person, and stepping into the freedom that comes from forgiving like you have been forgiven.</itunes:subtitle>

<p>Discover the transformative power of forgiveness in this profound study of Matthew 18:21-35. When Peter asks how many times he should forgive, Jesus responds: "seventy times seven"—meaning unlimited forgiveness. Through the parable of the unforgiving servant, Jesus reveals a stunning truth: you cannot be right with God while holding unforgiveness in your heart. This episode explores how you've been forgiven of an impossible debt—every sin, every failure, every shortcoming—yet you may be refusing to extend that same mercy to others. Learn why unforgiveness is actually a rejection of the mercy that saved you, and how forgiveness is not a feeling but a choice. Through contemplative meditation and practical reflection, discover who you need to forgive, what debt you've been demanding they pay, and how to release them—and yourself—from the burden of unforgiveness. This episode will liberate you from the chains of bitterness and restore you to right relationship with God.<br>

<itunes:subtitle>This episode of 2 Minute Disciple explores Matthew 6:14–18, where Jesus connects forgiveness and fasting as twin expressions of genuine, hidden devotion. Host Nick Oyler guides listeners through the contemplative devotional rhythm of slowing down, reading, meditating, and responding in prayer. The episode unpacks how an unforgiving heart is a closed fist that cannot receive God’s grace, and how spiritual disciplines like fasting lose their power when performed for public approval. The daily habit invites listeners to write down the name of someone they need to forgive and spend two minutes praying over that name.</itunes:subtitle>

<p>In this episode of 2 Minute Disciple, host Nick Oyler leads a contemplative devotional through Matthew 6:9–13 — the Lord’s Prayer. When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, He didn’t give them a theology lecture. He gave them a prayer. Every line worth a lifetime of reflection. <br>
🎯Through guided breathing, Scripture meditation, and a practical habit of praying line by line, this episode invites you to rediscover this ancient prayer not as a recitation to rush through, but as a living template that starts with worship, moves through surrender, and arrives at honest need — reshaping your heart every time you pray it.</p>

Host Nick Oyler guides listeners through a gentle rhythm of slowing down, reading, noticing, meditating, and responding to the story.
We explore how Jesus sees “their faith,” forgives the man’s sins, and then heals his body—revealing His authority and compassion. The episode invites you to consider the power of intercession, spiritual friendship, and being both a carrier and a receiver of Christ’s mercy. A simple spiritual exercise helps listeners “carry someone in prayer” throughout the day.</itunes:subtitle>

<p>In this episode, we enter the story of friends who refused to let anything keep them from bringing a paralyzed man to Jesus (Luke 5:17–26, NLT). We watch them climb the roof, remove tiles, and lower their friend right in front of Jesus—and we hear how Jesus responds to their faith with forgiveness and healing.<br>
Together, we reflect on who we might be called to carry to Jesus, and where we might need to let others carry us.<br>

<p>Life is busy! Each day has a list of things that need to be accomplished for work and around the house as well as to keep up family relationships. We have enough things to keep ourselves busy 24/7. I can relate to the frenetic pace of Jesus’ ministry here in Mark’s gospel, however, Jesus shows us that our relationship with God needs time too. I am learning that I have to carve out time to be with God, it doesn’t just happen naturally, I have to intentionally carve out time to be alone with God. I meet with Him in the shower and and I listen to his word while I iron clothes. This is what works for me and what I’ve learned from Jesus is that if he could carve out time to be with the father, then so can I.</p>

<itunes:subtitle>I saw this tweet from Bob Goff today and I thought it fit with today’s reading. “Next to grace, I bet God thinks making us need each other was one of His best ideas.” That is exactly what this chapter is about, relational health. God made us for community and Jesus gives us the road map to having healthy and thriving relationships. Everyone can benefit from the lessons that Jesus teaches here. This is where I want you to join the conversation and tell me what you learned from Jesus in this chapter. Either go to the show notes page and scroll to the bottom and type your response or if you are using a podcast platform, click on the podcast episode website link and you will see it at the bottom of the page.
