2 Minute Disciple | Daily Devotional Podcast

Slow down. Meet Jesus. Let His Word shape your day.

Day 59 — Mark 2:6–12 — Authority to Forgive and Heal

Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s awesome to be here with you today.
Today is February 28.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.

Slow Down

We carry so much around every day — financial worries, relational stress, anxiety about the future, and the pressure to succeed.
Now is the time to set those things down for a few minutes and enjoy some time with Jesus.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper in your heart: “Jesus, I trust Your authority.”
As you exhale, pray: “Forgive and heal me.”
Do this three times, then sit in silence for a few moments.

Read

But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves,
“What is he saying? This is blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!”
Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’?
So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.”
Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!”
And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers.
They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, “We’ve never seen anything like this before!”
(Mark 2:6–12, NLT)

Notice

What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention?
Hold it in your heart for a moment.

Reread

Hear the passage again slowly, picturing the moment the man stands up and walks out.

Meditate

The crowd came expecting healing, but Jesus began with forgiveness. This shocked the religious leaders — forgiveness is God’s domain, and Jesus was claiming that authority.
Then, to prove His words, He healed the man’s body. The miracle was complete — soul and body restored. The crowd’s awe was not just about the healing, but about the authority behind it.
We often come to Jesus with surface needs, but He sees the deeper wounds — and His authority covers both.
Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
Where do I need to trust Jesus’ authority to forgive and heal me today?

Respond

Lord, I trust Your authority over my life. Forgive my sins and heal my heart.

Exercise

The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Mat to Mission
Think of one area of your life where Jesus has brought healing or forgiveness.
Share that story with someone today to point them toward His authority and compassion.
