Slow down. Meet Jesus. Let His Word shape your day.

Day 88 — Matthew 5:7–8 — Mercy and a Clear Heart

Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s a pleasure to be here with you today.
Today is March 29.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.

Slow Down

You are stepping into a sacred space with the intent of meeting Jesus.
He wants to meet with you and spend time with you.
Take this moment to slow down, quiet your mind, and prepare your heart to connect with Him.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: “Lord, form my heart.”
As you exhale, pray: “Clear my vision.”
Do this three times, then rest in His presence.

Read

God blesses those who are merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
God blesses those whose hearts are pure,
for they will see God.  (Matthew 5:7–8, NLT)

Notice

What phrase stands out?
Hold that phrase before the Lord.

Reread

Hear these blessings again as invitations: to show mercy, and to keep a clear, undivided heart before God.

Meditate

Jesus blesses the merciful—those who don’t give others what they “deserve,” but what they themselves have received from God: kindness, patience, forgiveness. He promises they will be shown mercy. The more we grasp God’s mercy toward us, the more we’re freed to extend it.
He also blesses those whose hearts are pure—clean, undivided, not playing games with God. To them, He promises something astonishing: “they will see God.” Purity of heart is not perfection, but a sincere, honest openness to God.
Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
Is there someone I need to show mercy to today? And what might it look like to bring my heart honestly before God, without pretending?

Respond

Jesus, thank You for the mercy You’ve shown me.
Teach me to be merciful to others, especially when it’s hard.
Purify my heart—clear away what clouds my vision—so I can see You more clearly.

Exercise

The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Thank God for Something Small
Today, at some point, pause and thank God for one small but meaningful thing—a kind word, a warm drink, a moment of beauty.
As you do, pray: “Merciful God, open my eyes to Your goodness in the little things.”

That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard… and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
