Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it is a pleasure to be here with you today. Today is February 18.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.
Slow Down
You are stepping into a sacred space with the intent of meeting Jesus.
He wants to meet with you and spend time with you.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: “Jesus, I give You my burdens.”
As you exhale, pray: “I receive Your peace.”
Repeat this three times, then rest in His presence.
Read
When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, Peter’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever.
But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her. Then she got up and prepared a meal for him.
That evening many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and he healed all the sick.
This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said, “He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.”
(Matthew 8:14–17, NLT)
Notice
What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention?
Reread
Hear the passage again, imagining the scene in Peter’s home and the people gathered outside.
Meditate
You walk into Peter’s house and immediately notice the heaviness in the air. His mother-in-law lies in bed, her breathing labored, the fever stealing her strength. Family members hover, worried but helpless.
Jesus doesn’t hesitate. He steps close, bends down, and touches her hand. The fever breaks instantly. Her eyes brighten, color returns to her cheeks, and she rises to serve.
Word spreads quickly, and by evening, the house is surrounded. The sick, the weary, the demon-possessed — they all come. Jesus moves among them, healing with a word, freeing with a touch.
Matthew reminds us that this fulfills Isaiah’s prophecy: “He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.” Jesus doesn’t just heal symptoms — He carries our pain, our burdens, our brokenness.
Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
What burden am I carrying that I need to place in Jesus’ hands today?
Respond
Lord, I give You my burdens. Carry what I cannot, and fill me with Your peace..
Exercise
The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Lay It Down
Write down one burden you’ve been carrying — it could be a worry, a hurt, or a responsibility that feels too heavy.
Pray over it, then place the paper somewhere you can’t easily see it, as a symbol of giving it to Jesus.
Whenever the weight of it comes back to mind, whisper: “Jesus, You have this.”
Before we close, I want to ask a quick favor. Right now, 2 Minute Disciple only has a few ratings on Apple Podcasts, and every single one really helps.
If this daily devotional has encouraged you, would you pause for just a moment today and tap the stars in Apple Podcasts? And if you’re willing, write one short sentence about what this podcast means to you.
That might be the way someone else finds 2 minutes with Jesus each day.
That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard… and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
