2 Minute Disciple | Daily Devotional Podcast

Slow down. Meet Jesus. Let His Word shape your day.

Day 50 — Luke 4:38–41 — Everyone Who Came

Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s an honor to be here with you today. Today is February 19.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.

Slow Down

Jesus is glad you’re here.
He loves you deeply and wants to be in your presence.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: “Jesus, I come to You.”
As you exhale, pray: “I bring my needs.”
Repeat this three times, then sit quietly with Him.

Read

After leaving the synagogue that day, Jesus went to Simon’s home, where he found Simon’s mother-in-law very sick with a high fever.
“Please heal her,” everyone begged.
Standing at her bedside, he rebuked the fever, and it left her. And she got up at once and prepared a meal for them.
As the sun went down that evening, people throughout the village brought sick family members to Jesus.
No matter what their diseases were, the touch of his hand healed every one.
Many were possessed by demons; and the demons came out at his command, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But because they knew he was the Messiah, he rebuked them and refused to let them speak.
(Luke 4:38–41, NLT)

Notice

What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a phrase or truth that speaks directly to you?

Reread

Hear the passage again, picturing the home, the crowd, and Jesus’ touch.

Meditate

After leaving the synagogue, Jesus goes to Simon’s home. Simon’s mother-in-law is sick with a high fever. You watch as Jesus leans over her, speaking softly, rebuking the fever as if it were an unwelcome guest. In moments, she’s well — moving about, serving the household.
As the sun dips below the horizon, the quiet street fills with people. They bring loved ones wrapped in blankets, leaning on shoulders, carried on mats. The air is thick with need — and hope.
Jesus touches each one. No one is overlooked. Demons flee at His command, sickness disappears at His word. You realize this is what the kingdom of God looks like — light breaking into darkness, wholeness replacing brokenness.
Lord, help me to bring others to You, knowing You welcome everyone who comes.
Reflect on this:
Who in my life needs the touch of Jesus today, and how can I help bring them to Him?

Respond

Lord, help me to bring others to You, knowing You welcome everyone who comes.

Exercise

The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Bring Someone
Today, think of someone who needs Jesus’ touch — physically, emotionally, or spiritually.
Pray for them by name, and if possible, reach out with a word of encouragement, an offer to pray together, or an invitation to listen to Scripture.
Be intentional about helping them take a step closer to Jesus.
