2 Minute Disciple | Daily Devotional Podcast

Slow down. Meet Jesus. Let His Word shape your day.

Day 39 — John 4:27–31 — Leaving the Jar Behind

Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it is fabulous to be here with you today. Today is February 8 .
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.

Slow Down

You are stepping into a sacred space with Jesus.
Set aside the distractions of your day.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: “You are here.”
As you exhale, pray: “I am listening.”
Repeat this three times, then rest in His presence.

Read

Just then his disciples came back. They were shocked to find him talking to a woman, but none of them had the nerve to ask, “What do you want with her?” or “Why are you talking to her?”
The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone, “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?”
So the people came streaming from the village to see him.
(John 4:27–31, NLT)

Notice

What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention?
Hold it in your heart for a moment.

Reread

Hear the passage again slowly, imagining the scene — the disciples’ surprise, the woman’s excitement, the crowd’s curiosity.

Meditate

The Samaritan woman left her water jar — the very reason she came to the well — because she had found something far more important. That jar represented her daily routine, her immediate needs, and perhaps even the weight of her past. In meeting Jesus, her priorities shifted instantly. When we encounter Him, the things we once thought essential often lose their grip on us. Her joy overflowed, compelling her to tell others.
Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
What “water jar” am I holding onto that I need to leave behind so I can run toward Jesus’ calling?

Respond

Lord, help me to let go of what’s holding me back and run toward You with joy.

Exercise

The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Scripture Reminder
Write a verse from today’s reading on a sticky note. Place it where you’ll see it often — your desk, mirror, or fridge. Each time you notice it, pause and remember the woman’s excitement in meeting Jesus. Let it inspire you to share your own story of encountering Him. If possible, give the sticky note to someone else by the end of the day as a way to encourage them
