2 Minute Disciple

2 minutes of discovery leads to a lifetime of following Jesus!

Day 15 — Mark 1:1–6 — Preparing the Way | Daily Devotional Podcast (Lectio Divina)

Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it is great to be here with you today. It is January 15.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.

Slow Down

You are stepping into a sacred space to meet with Jesus.
Take a moment to pause, quiet your mind, and turn your attention toward Him.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it. Repeat this three times.
As you inhale, whisper in your heart: “Lord Jesus Christ.”
As you exhale, pray: “Have mercy on me.”
Do this three times, ask God to speak to you, then sit in silence for a few moments.

Read

This is the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God. It began just as the prophet Isaiah had written:
“Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,
and he will prepare your way.
He is a voice shouting in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming!
Clear the road for him!’ ”
This messenger was John the Baptist. He was in the wilderness and preached that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven. All of Judea, including all the people of Jerusalem, went out to see and hear John. And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River. His clothes were woven from coarse camel hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist. For food he ate locusts and wild honey.  (Mark 1:1–6, NLT)

Notice

What are you hearing from God?
Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention?
Hold it in your heart for a moment.

Reread

Now hear the passage again slowly, being mindful of what God is wanting you to hear from Him.

Meditate

God uses people in our lives to get our attention, point us in the right direction, and help us take action.
That could be a friend, family member, coworker, stranger, or even someone you hear online.
God has cleared the path for Jesus to come into your life — are you listening?
What change do you need to make in your life?
Take a few moments to reflect on this truth:
God puts the right people in my life to help me turn back to Him.

Respond

God, help me to listen to the people You have sent to point me back to Jesus.

Exercise

The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Prayer in the Moment
Life is made up of transitions—moving between events, tasks, and conversations. Use those small in-between moments to offer a quick prayer.
Examples:
After completing a task: “God, thank You for giving me the ability to finish that.”
After a conversation: “God, be with my friend and help them follow You.”
The goal is to keep an ongoing conversation with God throughout your day.

That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard… and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
