Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s awesome to be here with you today.
Today is June 9.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.
Slow Down
You are stepping into a sacred space with Jesus.
Set aside the distractions of your day.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: “Jesus, I need to be near You.”
As you exhale, pray: “Let me reach for You today.”
Do this three times, then rest in His presence.
Read
After they had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret. They brought the boat to shore and climbed out. The people recognized Jesus at once, and they ran throughout the whole area, carrying sick people on mats to wherever they heard he was. Wherever he went—in villages, cities, or the countryside—they brought the sick out to the marketplaces. They begged him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe, and all who touched him were healed.
(Mark 6:53–56, NLT)
Notice
What hits you most?
Is there a phrase that jumps out to you?
Hold that phrase gently before the Lord.
Reread
Hear this passage again — and notice the urgency with which people brought their sick to Jesus, and what was enough to bring healing.
Meditate
This is one of the briefest passages in Mark’s Gospel — just four verses — but it carries an image worth sitting with. Everywhere Jesus went, word spread immediately. People ran through the surrounding region. They carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard He was. They begged to touch even the fringe of His robe. And all who touched it were healed.
There is a breathless quality to this passage. The word immediately runs through Mark’s Gospel like a pulse, and here it shows up again — people running, carrying, laying the sick in the marketplaces, desperate to get close. They weren’t asking for a lengthy conversation or a formal appointment. They just wanted to get near enough to touch the edge of what He was wearing.
And it was enough.
We live on the other side of the resurrection, with the Spirit of Jesus dwelling within us — which means we have access to Him that those crowds could only dream of. And yet how often do we live as though He is far away, as though reaching Him requires some special qualification or elaborate preparation?
The fringe of His robe was enough for them. A whispered prayer, an honest cry, a moment of reaching toward Him in the middle of an ordinary day — that is enough for us. He is not hard to find. He is not reluctant to be touched. He is still moving through the towns and villages of our lives, and He is still healing all who reach for Him.
Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
Am I reaching for Jesus with the same urgency and expectation as the people in this passage — or have I grown so familiar with His presence that I’ve stopped actively reaching for Him?
Respond
Jesus, forgive me for the times I’ve treated Your presence as ordinary or Your healing as unlikely. I reach for You today trusting that You are enough.
Exercise
The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Reaching for Jesus
Today’s habit is a practice of intentional reaching: set three reminders on your phone today — morning, midday, and afternoon — with a simple prompt: Reach for Jesus.
When each reminder goes off, stop whatever you are doing for sixty seconds and reach — in prayer, in a whispered word, in a moment of conscious awareness of His presence. You don’t need a long prayer. Just reach.
The crowds didn’t need an appointment. They just needed to get close. You are already closer than they ever were — His Spirit is within you. Reach deliberately. Reach expectantly. And trust that He is still the same Jesus who healed all who touched Him.
