Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Kylie and it’s great to be here with you today.
Today is August 7.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.
Slow Down
You are stepping into a sacred space with the intent of meeting Jesus.
He wants to meet with you and spend time with you.
Take this moment to slow down, quiet your mind, and prepare your heart to connect with Him.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it
As you inhale, whisper: “Jesus, I sit at your feet.”
As you exhale, pray: “Teach me.”
Do this three times, then rest in His presence.
Read
As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”
But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”
(Luke 10:38–42, NLT)
Notice
What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention?
Hold it in your heart for a moment.
Reread
Hear this passage again and notice how Jesus responds to Martha.
Meditate
There is only one thing worth being concerned about.
Martha is busy. She's hosting Jesus — the Son of God — in her home. She's preparing a meal. She's working hard. And she's frustrated that her sister is just sitting there while she does everything.
It's a completely understandable reaction. Most of us would feel the same way.
But notice what Jesus says. He doesn't rebuke Martha for working. He rebukes her for being worried and upset. "My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details."
The problem isn't the dinner. The problem is that the dinner has become more important than the Guest.
Mary has discovered the one thing. She's sitting at Jesus's feet. She's listening. She's present. She's chosen the better part — and Jesus says it will not be taken from her.
This is the tension most of us live in every day. There is always more to do. The to-do list never ends. The needs are real. The work is legitimate. But somewhere in the busyness, we can lose the one thing that matters most — being present with Jesus.
Martha was serving Jesus while missing Jesus. It's possible to be very busy for God while being very far from God.
Take a few moments to sit with this question:
What is crowding out the one thing in my life right now — and what would it look like to choose, like Mary, to sit at Jesus's feet today?
Respond
Jesus, I don't want to be so busy serving You that I miss being with You. Help me to choose the one thing. Help me to sit at Your feet — to listen, to learn, to be present. Quiet the noise. Slow me down. Teach me.
Exercise
The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Sitting at His Feet
Today's habit is an act of deliberate presence: protect one specific block of time today — even just ten minutes — to sit at Jesus's feet.
Not to pray through your list. Not to read a devotional. Not to listen to a podcast. Just to be present with Him. To sit. To listen. To let Him speak.
Find a quiet place. Put your phone away. Close your eyes. And simply be with Jesus.
If your mind wanders to your to-do list — to all the things you should be doing, all the Marthas in your life who need your attention — gently bring it back. Whisper: "Jesus, I'm here. I'm choosing the one thing."
Before you begin, pray: "Jesus, I'm choosing to sit at Your feet right now. I have a lot to do today — but none of it is more important than this. Quiet my mind. Speak to me. I'm listening."
Then sit. And listen.
What you choose in this moment matters. Choose the one thing.
I have two asks of you before you go, could you please share this podcast with one person today and check out the review of this podcast on Elevate Society?
That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard…share it and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
