2 Minute Disciple | Daily Faith Journey for Spiritual Growth

Slow down. Meet Jesus. Let His Teaching shape your day.

Day 179 — Luke 9:28–36 — The Transfiguration

Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s wonderful to be here with you today.

Today is June 28.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.

Let’s begin.

Slow Down

You are stepping into a sacred space with the intent of meeting with Jesus.

He wants to meet with you and spend time with you.
Take this moment to slow down, quiet your mind, and prepare your heart to connect with Him.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: "Jesus, open my eyes."
As you exhale, pray: "Let me see your glory."
Do this three times, then rest in His presence.

Read

About eight days later Jesus took Peter, John, and James up on a mountain to pray. And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly, two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared and began talking with Jesus. They were glorious to see. And they were speaking about his exodus from this world, which was about to be fulfilled in Jerusalem.
Peter and the others had fallen asleep. When they woke up, they saw Jesus’ glory and the two men standing with him. As Moses and Elijah were starting to leave, Peter, not even knowing what he was saying, blurted out, “Master, it’s wonderful for us to be here! Let’s make three shelters as memorials—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” But even as he was saying this, a cloud overshadowed them, and terror gripped them as the cloud covered them.
Then a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him.” When the voice finished, Jesus was there alone. They didn’t tell anyone at that time what they had seen.
(Luke 9:28–36, NLT)

Meditate

Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a mountain to pray. And while He is praying, something happens. His appearance changes. His face is transformed.
His clothes become dazzling white. And suddenly, Moses and Elijah appear - the Law and the Prophets - speaking with Jesus about His exodus, His departure, the death He is about to accomplish in Jerusalem.
The disciples wake up and see glory. Real, overwhelming, unmistakable glory. And Peter, in classic Peter fashion, tries to do something with it. "Let's build three shelters! Let's memorialize this moment! Let's capture it and stay here!"
But God interrupts. A cloud overshadows them. A voice speaks from the cloud: "This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him."
Not Moses. Not Elijah. Not the Law. Not the Prophets. Listen to Him.
And when the voice finishes, Jesus is there alone. Moses and Elijah are gone. The glory fades. And Jesus leads them back down the mountain - back toward Jerusalem, back toward the cross, back toward the exodus He came to accomplish.
This moment is a gift. It's a glimpse behind the veil. It's confirmation that Jesus is not just another prophet - He is the fulfillment of everything the Law and the Prophets pointed to. He is the Chosen One. And our call is not to build monuments to the experience - our call is to listen to Him.
Take a few moments to reflect on this question:

Am I listening to Jesus — or am I trying to capture and control the moment, build shelters around my experience, and stay on the mountain instead of following Him down into the valley?

Respond

Jesus, You are glorious. Help me not to camp in past experiences but to follow You wherever You lead - even when the path leads down.

Exercise

The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Listening Instead of Building
Today's habit is releasing control: identify one spiritual experience - a powerful worship moment, a season of breakthrough, an answered prayer, a mountain-top feeling - that you've been trying to recreate or hold onto instead of simply listening to what Jesus is saying now.
Ask yourself: am I trying to build a shelter around that moment? Am I trying to stay on the mountain? Or am I willing to follow Jesus down - into the ordinary, into the hard, into whatever comes next - trusting that He is still glorious even when I can't see it?
Pray this today: "Jesus, I let go of what was. I'm listening for what You are saying now. Lead me."

I have one ask of you before you go, could you please share this podcast with one person today? One person at a time will grow this podcast to help more people walk with Jesus.

That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.

Now, take what you’ve heard…share it and live it.
