Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s an honor to be here with you today.
Today is June 11. I want to give a shout out to my daughter Caelyn today is her birthday. Happy Birthday, Caelyn!
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.
Slow Down
Jesus is here.
He’s sitting in your favorite spot, waiting for you to join Him.
You have a million things on your mind that need your attention, but right now it’s time to be with Jesus.
Set those things aside, relax, and calm your body.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: “Father, give me this bread.”
As you exhale, pray: “Feed me with what only You can give.”
Do this three times, then rest in His presence.
Read
They answered, “Show us a miraculous sign if you want us to believe in you. What can you do? After all, our ancestors ate manna while they journeyed through the wilderness! The Scriptures say, ‘Moses gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”
Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
“Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day.” (John 6:30–34, NLT)
Notice
What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention?
Hold it in your heart for a moment.
Reread
Hear this exchange again — and notice the crowd’s request at the end, and what it reveals about where their understanding is heading.
Meditate
The crowd has just been told to work for food that endures to eternal life. So they ask for a sign — and they reach back to the greatest miracle in Israel’s history: Moses gave our ancestors bread from heaven. Can You do something like that?
There is an irony here that Jesus is about to expose. They are asking for a sign — from the Man who just fed five thousand people. They were there. They ate the bread. And still they want more evidence before they commit.
But Jesus gently corrects their history: it wasn’t Moses who gave the bread — it was My Father. And the true bread from heaven is not the manna your ancestors ate in the wilderness. The true bread from heaven is the One who comes down from God and gives life to the world.
And the crowd responds with something that is almost there — almost faith, almost understanding: Sir, give us this bread always.
They are still thinking about physical bread. But they are asking for it from the right Person, with the right urgency, in the right direction. Sometimes our prayers are more right than we know — even when our theology is incomplete.
Give us this bread always. It is not a bad prayer. Jesus is about to tell them that He is the answer to it.
Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
Am I asking Jesus for the right things — and am I open to the possibility that what He wants to give me is far greater than what I think I am asking for?
Respond
Father, feed me with Jesus — with His presence, His word, His life in me. That is what I need.
Exercise
The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Asking Well
Today’s habit is an act of honest, directed hunger: identify the deepest unmet longing in your life right now — not just a surface want, but the thing underneath all the other things — and bring it to Jesus today in prayer.
You may not have the theology perfectly sorted. That’s okay. The crowd didn’t either. But they brought their hunger to the right Person and asked in the right direction. Do the same.
Pray: “Jesus, give me this bread always. I am hungry for something I cannot name fully and cannot find anywhere else. I bring that hunger to You. Feed me with Yourself — with Your presence, Your word, Your life. You are what I need.”
