This year, we’re going to slow down.
We’re going to breathe.
We’re going to open the Scriptures, not just to read them — but to meet Jesus in them.
There’s an ancient Christian practice that will guide us.
It’s called Lectio Divina — “Divine Reading.”
It’s not about rushing through verses or checking off a reading plan.
It’s about creating space to listen… really listen…
to the voice of God speaking through His Word.
Here’s how it works.
Each day, we’ll move through a simple rhythm:
We’ll slow down…
We’ll read the passage…
We’ll notice what stands out…
We’ll reread it, listening for God’s personal word to us…
We’ll meditate on what it means…
We’ll respond in prayer…
And finally, we’ll take a small, intentional step to carry that truth into our day.
I call this journey 365 Days With Jesus.
It’s not just a devotional — it’s a daily meeting with the One who loves you, knows you, and wants to walk with you.
So wherever you are right now — in your kitchen, on your commute, sitting quietly in your favorite chair —
take a deep breath.
Let go of the rush.
And join me…
as we step into the sacred space of God’s presence…
and meet Jesus in His Word.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.
Slow Down
Life spins at a relentless pace, and its demands press in from every side. But right now, you are stepping into a sacred space. Take a moment to pause, quiet your mind, and turn your attention toward Jesus.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it. Repeat this three times.
As you inhale, whisper in your heart: “Lord Jesus Christ.”
As you exhale, pray: “Have mercy on me.”
Do this three times, ask God to speak to you, then sit in silence for a few moments.
Read
Many people have set out to write accounts about the events that have been fulfilled among us. They used the eyewitness reports circulating among us from the early disciples. Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write an accurate account for you, most honorable Theophilus, so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught. (Luke 1:1–4, NLT)
Notice
What are you hearing from God? What stands out to you in this passage? Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention? Write it down in your journal.
Reread
Now read the passage again slowly, being mindful of what God is wanting you to hear from Him.
Meditate
In our world, it’s often hard to separate what is authentic from what is false. Certainty is rare in an age of endless information and bold claims.
Luke tells us his account of Jesus’ life was carefully investigated from the very beginning. His goal was accuracy—so that we can be confident in what we’ve been taught about Jesus.
Take a few moments to reflect on this truth:
I can be certain of who Jesus is through the Gospel accounts.
Respond
God, thank you for giving me a trustworthy way to know Jesus with confidence…
Exercise
The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Prayer in the Moment
Life is made up of transitions—moving between events, tasks, and conversations. Use those small in-between moments to offer a quick prayer.
Examples:
After completing a task: “God, thank You for giving me the ability to finish that.”
After a conversation: “God, be with my friend and help them follow You.”
The goal is to keep an ongoing conversation with God throughout your day.
That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today. Now, take what you’ve heard… and live it. Whether it’s a prayer in the moment, a smile to light someone’s world, or a helping hand —let God’s Word shape your steps.
Remember, discipleship isn’t just something we learn…it’s something we live. Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
