Mark 12: Confronting Corruption, Loving God, Loving Neighbor – Apprenticeship to Jesus Week 12

In Week 12 of An Apprenticeship to Jesus: Gospel of Mark Study, we step into a chapter where Jesus meets opposition head-on, teaches the heart of God’s law, and commends a humble act of faith.

Mark 12 opens with the parable of the tenants — a powerful warning against rejecting God’s messengers and ultimately His Son. Religious leaders, threatened by Jesus’ authority, attempt to trap Him with political and theological questions. Yet, Jesus responds with wisdom that transcends their schemes:

Render to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.
In the resurrection, relationships are transformed.
The greatest commandments: Love God with all your being and love your neighbor as yourself.
One of the most striking moments comes at the end of the chapter. A poor widow gives two small coins — all she has — and Jesus declares her offering greater than the large sums of the wealthy. It’s a reminder that God values the heart behind the gift, not the amount.

Weekly Practices:

One Minute Prayer: Pause after each activity to talk to God before moving on.
Scripture Memory: Commit Philippians 4:8 to heart.
Fasting: Skip one meal and pray for persecuted Christians in Muslim countries.
Reflection Questions:

How can I love God and my neighbor more fully this week?
What does sacrificial giving look like in my life?
How can I respond to challenges with the wisdom of Jesus?
This chapter invites us to live with integrity, love, and generosity — qualities that reflect the Kingdom of God.
