Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s awesome to be here with you today.
Today is July 24.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.
Slow Down
You are stepping into a sacred space with Jesus.
Set aside the distractions of your day.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: “Jesus, you are the light of the world.”
As you exhale, pray: “I follow you to life.”
Do this three times, then rest in His presence.
Read
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
The Pharisees replied, “You are making those claims about yourself! Such testimony is not valid.”
Jesus told them, “These claims are valid even though I make them about myself. For I know where I came from and where I am going, but you don’t know this about me. You judge me by human standards, but I do not judge anyone. And if I did, my judgment would be correct in every respect because I am not alone. The Father who sent me is with me. Your own law says that if two people agree about something, their witness is accepted as fact. I am one witness, and my Father who sent me is the other.”
“Where is your father?” they asked.
Jesus answered, “Since you don’t know who I am, you don’t know who my Father is. If you knew me, you would also know my Father.” Jesus made these statements while he was teaching in the section of the Temple known as the Treasury. But he was not arrested, because his time had not yet come.
(John 8:12–20, NLT)

Meditate
Jesus offers us a choice between darkness and light.
"I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."
It's a simple statement, but it's profound. Jesus is saying: There are two ways to live. You can walk in darkness, or you can follow Me and walk in light. You can stumble and be lost, or you can see clearly and find your way.
What is darkness? It's confusion. It's lostness. It's stumbling around, not knowing where you're going. It's making decisions without clarity, without direction. It's being blind to what's real.
What is light? It's clarity. It's vision. It's being able to see where you're going. It's understanding your path. It's seeing reality as it actually is.
And Jesus is saying: I am that light. If you follow Me, you won't stumble in darkness. You'll see. You'll understand. You'll know the way.
But the Pharisees challenge Him: "You're making claims about yourself. That's not valid testimony." They're saying: You can't just declare who you are. You need external validation. You need witnesses.
And Jesus responds with something remarkable: "These claims are valid even though I make them about myself. For I know where I came from and where I am going.”
Jesus is saying: I don't need your validation. I know who I am. I know where I came from—from the Father. I know where I'm going—back to the Father. I have complete self-knowledge and complete clarity about My identity and My mission.
And then He says something even more important: "If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness." Not because you'll understand everything. Not because all your questions will be answered. But because you'll have light. You'll have clarity about what matters most. You'll have direction.
The Pharisees are still in darkness. They don't know who Jesus is. They don't know who the Father is. They're judging by human standards, by their own logic, by their own understanding. And that blinds them to the truth standing right in front of them.
But anyone who follows Jesus—anyone who says yes to His light—doesn't have to stay in that darkness. You can see. You can understand. You can walk with confidence because you have light.
Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
Am I willing to let Jesus illuminate the path ahead, even if I can't see the whole journey?
Respond
Jesus, I am walking with you in the light. I don't want to stumble in darkness anymore. Illuminate my path. Show me what I need to see. Help me to follow You with confidence, knowing that You are the light that leads to life.
Exercise
The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Following the Light
Today's habit is an act of intentional illumination: identify one area of darkness in your life—one place where you're confused, lost, or stumbling.
It might be a relationship. It might be a decision you need to make. It might be a direction you're uncertain about. It might be something about yourself you don't understand. Write it down.
Then ask yourself: What can't I see clearly in this situation? What am I stumbling over? What would it look like to have light here?
Now, bring this darkness to Jesus and pray: "Jesus, I'm walking in darkness in . I can't see clearly. I'm confused. I'm stumbling. I'm asking You to be the light here. Illuminate this for me. Show me what I need to see. Help me to understand. Help me to find my way."
Let Jesus illuminate your path. And watch what happens when you stop stumbling in darkness and start walking in clarity.
