Slow down. Meet Jesus. Let His Word shape your day.

Day 93 — Luke 6:24–26 — Warnings for the Comfortable

Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s great to be here with you today.
Today is April 3.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.

Slow Down

You are stepping into a sacred space with the intent of meeting Jesus.
He wants to meet with you and spend time with you.
Take this moment to slow down, quiet your mind, and prepare your heart to connect with Him.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: “Jesus, search my heart.”
As you exhale, pray: “Show me what’s lasting.”
Do this three times, then rest in His presence.

Read

What sorrow awaits you who are rich,
for you have your only happiness now.
What sorrow awaits you who are fat and prosperous now,
for a time of awful hunger awaits you.
What sorrow awaits you who laugh now,
for your laughing will turn to mourning and sorrow.
What sorrow awaits you who are praised by the crowds,
for their ancestors also praised false prophets.  (Luke 6:24–26, NLT)

Notice

What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention?
Hold it in your heart for a moment.

Reread

Hear these “woes” again, not as Jesus hating joy or success, but warning about where we place our hope.

Meditate

Right after blessing the poor and hungry, Jesus turns to warn those who are rich, well‑fed, laughing, and praised now.
The danger isn’t having good things—it’s when these become our only happiness. When our hearts cling to money, comfort, entertainment, or approval, we can become numb to God and to the needs of others.
Jesus’ words are a loving alarm: don’t settle for a fragile happiness that ends when circumstances change. Let your deepest joy be rooted in God’s kingdom, not in what you can lose.
Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
Where am I leaning too heavily on comfort, success, or other people’s praise for my sense of well‑being?

Respond

Jesus, thank You for loving me enough to warn me.
Show me where I’ve let temporary comforts take the place of lasting joy in You.
Re‑center my heart on Your kingdom, not on what won’t last.

Exercise

The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: One Phrase to Carry
Today, choose one short phrase from this passage—maybe:
“You have your only happiness now,” or
“What sorrow awaits…”
Write it on a sticky note or in your phone, and look at it a few times throughout the day.
Each time you see it, pray:
“Lord, keep my heart set on what lasts, not just on what feels good now.”

That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard… and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
