Slow down. Meet Jesus. Let His Word shape your day.

Day 82 — Matthew 12:15–21 — The Gentle Servant

Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Kylie and it’s wonderful to be here with you today.
Today is March 23.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.

Slow Down

You are stepping into a sacred space with the intent of meeting with Jesus.
He wants to meet with you and spend time with you.
Take this moment to slow down, quiet your mind, and prepare your heart to connect with Him.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: “Jesus, I receive Your gentleness.”
As you exhale, pray: “Quiet my fears.”
Do this three times, then rest in His presence.

Read

But Jesus knew what they were planning. So he left that area, and many people followed him. He healed all the sick among them, but he warned them not to reveal who he was. This fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah concerning him:
“Look at my Servant, whom I have chosen.
He is my Beloved, who pleases me.
I will put my Spirit upon him,
and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
He will not fight or shout
or raise his voice in public.
He will not crush the weakest reed
or put out a flickering candle.
Finally he will cause justice to be victorious.
And his name will be the hope
of all the world.”  (Matthew 12:15–21, NLT)

Notice

What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention?
Hold it in your heart for a moment.

Reread

Hear the words from Isaiah again as a description of Jesus—chosen, Spirit‑filled, gentle, and bringing justice.

Meditate

Jesus withdraws when He knows people are plotting against Him, yet He still heals all who come. Matthew tells us this fulfills Isaiah’s prophecy of the Servant: loved by the Father, filled with the Spirit, proclaiming justice, yet deeply gentle.
“He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle.”
Jesus doesn’t snap those who feel fragile or snuff out those whose faith feels dim. He protects, heals, and patiently strengthens.
At the same time, He is committed to justice and will cause it to be victorious. His gentleness is not weakness—it’s power under perfect love.
Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
Where in my life do I feel like a “weak reed” or a “flickering candle”—and how might Jesus be meeting me there with His gentle strength?

Respond

Jesus, thank You that You are both just and gentle.
Thank You that You don’t crush my weakness or despise my small faith.
Help me rest in Your tenderness and trust that Your justice will win in the end.

Exercise

The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Hold the Door
Today, intentionally look for a chance to hold the door open for someone—or to give them the first place in line.
As you do, quietly pray: “Jesus, teach me to make space for others the way You make space for me.”

That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard… and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
