Today is August 30.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.

Slow Down

We carry so much around every day — financial worries, relational stress, anxiety about the future, and the pressure to succeed.
Now is the time to set those things down for a few minutes and enjoy some time with Jesus.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: “Jesus, You and the Father are One.”
As you exhale, pray: “I listen to You.”
Do this three times, then rest in His presence.

Read

It was now winter, and Jesus was in Jerusalem at the time of Hanukkah, the Festival of Dedication. He was in the Temple, walking through the section known as Solomon’s Colonnade. The people surrounded him and asked, “How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”
Jesus replied, “I have already told you, and you don’t believe me. The proof is the work I do in my Father’s name. But you don’t believe me because you are not my sheep. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”

Reread

Hear this exchange again — and notice what Jesus says about His sheep.

Meditate

"Tell us plainly."
The crowd is frustrated. They've been watching Jesus for months — maybe years. They've seen the miracles. They've heard the teaching. And they still want more proof. They want Him to just say it: "I am the Messiah."
But Jesus has already told them. Repeatedly. In words and in works.
And here's what He says: "The proof is the work I do in my Father's name."
He's not withholding. He's not playing games. The evidence is right in front of them — healing the sick, opening blind eyes, raising the dead. The works speak for themselves.
But then He says something that explains everything: "You don't believe me because you are not my sheep."
The problem isn't a lack of evidence. It's a lack of relationship. His sheep hear His voice. They know Him. They follow Him. And because of that relationship, they receive everything He offers — eternal life, security, the unbreakable grip of the Father's hand.
"No one can snatch them from the Father's hand."
Sit with that for a moment. No one. Not your failures. Not your doubts. Not your worst days. Not the enemy. Not death itself. If you belong to Jesus — if you are one of His sheep — you are held in the Father's hand. And the Father is more powerful than anyone else.
This is the security that the crowd was looking for in a declaration. But Jesus says it can only be found in a relationship. You don't find security by getting the right answer about Jesus. You find it by knowing Him — by hearing His voice, by following Him, by belonging to Him.
Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
Am I truly listening to Jesus's voice — and do I live with the security of knowing I am held in the Father's hand?

Respond

Jesus, I want to be one of Your sheep — truly listening to Your voice, truly following You, truly resting in the security of the Father's hand. Help me to stop looking for proof and start deepening relationship. I am Yours. And no one can snatch me away.

Exercise

The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Listen for His Voice
Today's habit is a practice of intentional listening: set aside one specific moment today — even just five minutes — to be still and listen for Jesus's voice.
Not to pray through your list. Not to read a passage and analyze it. Just to be quiet and listen. To say: "Jesus, I'm here. I'm one of Your sheep. Speak to me. I'm listening."
His sheep hear His voice. That's not a promise for a select few — it's a promise for everyone who belongs to Him. You can hear Him. But hearing requires stillness. It requires turning down the noise.
Find a quiet place. Put your phone away. Close your eyes. And simply ask: "Jesus, what do You want to say to me today?"
Then listen. Write down what comes to mind. Receive it gently and bring it back to God.
Before you begin, pray: "Jesus, I'm one of Your sheep. You said Your sheep hear Your voice. I want to hear You today — not just words about You, but You Yourself speaking. I'm still. I'm listening. Speak, Lord."
The Good Shepherd is speaking. His sheep hear His voice.
