Welcome to 2 Minute Disciple — where we slow down with Jesus, one passage at a time.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.
Slow Down
Jesus is glad you’re here. He longs to spend time with you. He loves you deeply and wants to be in your presence.
Take a moment to pause, quiet your mind, and turn your attention toward Him.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper in your heart: “Oh my soul.”
As you exhale, pray: “Praise the Lord.”
Repeat this three times, then sit in silence for a few moments.
Read
It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration, so Jesus went to Jerusalem. In the Temple area he saw merchants selling cattle, sheep, and doves for sacrifices; he also saw dealers at tables exchanging foreign money. Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the Temple. He drove out the sheep and cattle, scattered the money changers’ coins over the floor, and turned over their tables. Then, going over to the people who sold doves, he told them, “Get these things out of here. Stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace!”
Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: “Passion for God’s house will consume me.” (John 2:13–17, NLT)
Notice
What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a phrase or truth that speaks directly to you?
Hold it in your heart for a moment.
Reread
Close your eyes and step into the scene as you hear this passage again.
Imagine the sounds, the movement, and the expressions on people’s faces.
Meditate
What did you see?
What did you hear?
How did it feel to see Jesus angry?
What was the reaction of the people as He turned over the tables?
What made the biggest impression on you?
Take a few moments to reflect on this truth:
Jesus was passionate about the Temple because it was the place where people could meet with God.
Respond
Lord, help me to keep the place where I meet with You free from distraction.
Exercise
The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Chew on God’s Word
God’s Word never loses its flavor. The more you chew on it, the richer it becomes.
Today, chew on this phrase: “Passion for God’s house will consume me.”
Instead of scrolling on your phone, think about what great things God has done for you.
While sitting at a stoplight, ponder how God has worked in your life.
*Let your thoughts return to Him throughout the day.
