2 Minute Disciple | Daily Devotional Podcast

Slow down. Meet Jesus. Let His Word shape your day.

Day 23 — Mark 1:11–13 — Tempted but Victorious

Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast. I’m Nick and it is amazing to be here with you today.
Today is January 23.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.

Slow Down

Life is full of moments we can use or waste — and we get to choose what to do with the moments we’ve been given.
You are here now with Jesus, so take this moment to slow down, quiet your mind, and prepare your heart to connect with Him.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it. Repeat this three times.
As you inhale, whisper in your heart: “I love you, God.”
As you exhale, pray: “You bring me joy.”
Do this three times. Ask God to speak, then sit in silence for a few moments.

Read

And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.” The Spirit then compelled Jesus to go into the wilderness, where he was tempted by Satan for forty days. He was out among the wild animals, and angels took care of him.  (Mark 1:11–13, NLT)

Notice

What are you hearing from God?
What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention?
Hold it in your heart for a moment.

Reread

Let’s hear the passage again slowly, being mindful of what God is wanting you to hear from Him.

Meditate

Can you picture Jesus out among the wild animals?
I imagine them sizing Him up, but backing away in awe.
Can you see angels caring for Jesus during His time in the wilderness?
I picture them like the corner crew in a boxing match — offering water, towels, and encouragement — as Jesus faces off with Satan.
This scene reminds me that Jesus was tempted just like we are, but He never gave in.
He stood firm, and He overcame.
Take a few moments to reflect on this truth:
Jesus was tempted just like me, but He never gave in.

Respond

Jesus thank you for being tempted by satan and not giving in.

Exercise

The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
Habit: Hold the Door
Today, look for an opportunity to hold the door open for someone.
It’s a simple act, but it communicates kindness, respect, and care.
When you hold the door, you’re not just performing a polite gesture — you’re creating a small moment where someone feels seen and valued.
It’s a reminder that serving others doesn’t have to be grand or complicated.
Even in this small way, you can reflect the love of Jesus.
He came not to be served, but to serve — and when we serve in everyday moments, we carry His presence into the ordinary rhythms of life.
The goal is to let your actions, no matter how small, spread the love of Jesus and brighten someone’s day.

That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard… and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
