2 Minute Disciple | Daily Devotional Podcast

Slow down. Meet Jesus. Let His Word shape your day.

Day 19 — Luke 3:11–14 — Repentance in Action

Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast. I’m Nick and it is an honor to be here today. Today is January 19.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin.

Slow Down

You are stepping into a sacred space with the intent of meeting Jesus. He wants to meet with you and spend time with you. Take this moment to slow down, quiet your mind, and prepare your heart to connect with Him.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it. Repeat this three times.
As you inhale, whisper in your heart: “Lord Jesus Christ.”
As you exhale, pray: “Have Mercy On Me.”
Do this three times, ask God to speak, then sit in silence for a few moments.

Read

John replied, “If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.”
Even corrupt tax collectors came to be baptized and asked, “Teacher, what should we do?”
He replied, “Collect no more taxes than the government requires.”
“What should we do?” asked some soldiers. John replied, “Don’t extort money or make false accusations. And be content with your pay.” (Luke 3:11–14, NLT)

Notice

What are you hearing from God?
What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention?
Hold it in your heart for a moment.

Reread

Now read the passage again slowly, being mindful of what God is wanting you to hear from Him.

Meditate

I’m a “get-it-done” type of person. I want to know what needs to be done, and then do it to the best of my ability.
That’s why I appreciate John the Baptist’s straightforwardness in this passage.
He doesn’t speak in vague ideas — he gives practical, actionable steps:
Share with those in need.
Be honest in your work.
Treat others fairly.
Be content with what you have.
These are clear bullet points — a spiritual “to-do list” that sends you into the world ready to act.
Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
What things do you need to start doing or stop doing to live out your repentance?

Respond

God, help me to live out my repentance through actions that reflect Your love and truth.

Exercise

The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits.
*Habit: Serving Others *
If you are able, pay for someone’s coffee or meal today.
This simple act of kindness can brighten someone’s day and give them a positive impression of who Jesus is.
The goal is to make someone’s day through generosity and love.

That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard… and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
