An Apprenticeship to Jesus: Gospel of Mark – Week 5 Study & Reflections

Introduction

Welcome back to An Apprenticeship to Jesus, our Gospel of Mark study series. This week, we step into Mark 5, where Jesus demonstrates His authority over evil, His compassion for the suffering, and His power over life and death.

If you missed last week’s study on Mark 4, we learned to be good soil, shine our light, trust God’s process, and rest in His power.

Mark 5 Summary – Three Life-Changing Encounters

****Deliverance of the Demon-Possessed Man
Jesus frees a man tormented by “Legion” and sends him to proclaim God’s mercy.
Lesson: Jesus has authority over spiritual darkness and can transform any life.

****Healing the Woman with the Issue of Blood
After twelve years of suffering, a woman touches Jesus’ garment and is instantly healed.
Lesson: Faith, even expressed quietly, moves the heart of God.

****Raising Jairus’s Daughter
Jesus tells Jairus, “Do not fear, only believe,” then restores his daughter to life.
Lesson: Jesus has power over death, and belief is the key to hope.

Key Takeaways for Today

Jesus meets people in their brokenness — whether among tombs, in crowded streets, or in grief-filled homes.
Faith opens the door to miracles — trust Him even when circumstances seem hopeless.
Testimony matters — share what God has done for you.
Replace fear with belief — His words to Jairus are for us, too.
