Day 184 — Matthew 18:1–4 — Naming The GOAT Of The Kingdom
Article | July 3rd, 2026
In Episode 184, we explore Matthew 18:1-4 and Jesus' shocking redefinition of greatness. The disciples come to Jesus with a question that reflects the world's values: "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" They're thinking in terms of power, authority, achievement, and recognition. They want to know who's at the top of the hierarchy. But Jesus doesn't answer with a name or a list of accomplishments. Instead, He calls a child forward and places the child in the midst of them. In first-century Jewish culture, children had no status, no voice in society, no social importance. By elevating a child as the model of greatness, Jesus shocks everyone listening and completely inverts the cultural hierarchy. Through guided meditation, discover what Jesus is really teaching: true greatness in God's kingdom is measured by humility, not prominence. But there's more to this lesson than just humility. Jesus is calling us to reclaim childlikeness—the awe and wonder with which children approach the world. Children approach life with openness, curiosity, and trust. They haven't yet been hardened by disappointment or protected themselves with cynicism. They still believe good things are possible. This episode challenges you to examine how you measure greatness and success. The world measures it by what you've achieved, what you own, and who knows your name. Jesus measures it by how humble you are, how open you are to wonder, and how willing you are to trust like a child. Learn practical ways to reclaim your sense of awe and wonder with God—approaching familiar prayers, scriptures, and worship with fresh eyes as if experiencing them for the first time. Discover how humility and wonder are not weaknesses but the true pathways to greatness in God's kingdom.
